What is a Deanery?

Deaneries are responsible for implementing and managing postgraduate medical and dental education within the UK. This involves providing Foundation Year training, opportunities and support to ensure that all FY doctors and dentists are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to deliver high quality patient care and to sustain their continual professional development. The deaneries are also responsible for support and training all educators involved with postgraduate education.

What is a Foundation School?

Administered by local staff, Foundation schools bring together medical schools, deaneries, trusts and other organisations so that Foundation Year Doctors to be trained in different settings and clinical environments.

In total, there are 14 deaneries within the UK.
